CURRENT EVENTS

 

September 26-November 15, 2009.  A Historical Display.  Regularly scheduled hours at the Oakland Visitor’s Center.  Oil paintings, historical artifacts, and reproductions of documents portraying the far reaching impact of early Mormon settlements in California.  The exhibit will include intriguing details about the ship Brooklyn, the Mormon Battalion, and the Saints during the Gold Rush.  Bring your friends.

 

September 27, 2009.  Oakland Stake Fireside.  7:30 pm in the ISC Small Chapel.  “The California Saints:  Over a Century and a Half in the Golden State.”  Featuring Richard Cowan, Professor of Church History and Doctrine and past chair of the Department of Religion at BYU.  www.oak75years.com

 

October 10, 2009.  SMSAC Single Adult Conference.  “Excellence In All Things” Creating Your Dreams While Living Today.  Annual fall conference (15 stakes).  Keynote Speaker:  Brent Yorgason, Ph.D. (Author or co-author of 100 books, including 30 biographies).  Workshops include ‘The Touch of the Master’s Hand”, “Creating Joy and Happiness NOW”, and “An In-depth Look at Internet Dating”.  Food, entertainment, and dance.   Place: 2100 California Circle, Rancho Cordova (next to Sacramento Temple).  12:30 pm.( Registration) to 11:00 pm.  $15 by October 3, $20 at the door.  Contact:  Jennifer Blackburn at jbhealth1@sbcglobal.net

October 17, 2009.  Oakland Stake Cultural Celebration.  5:00-6:30pm in the ISC Large Gym.  Celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Oakland Stake by tasting foods from many different countries as you enjoy cultural music and dance performances.

 

October 17, 2009.  Temple Hill Symphony Performance.  7:30-9:00pm in the ISC Auditorium.  Special concert titled “Spanish Treasures’.

 

October 18, 2009.  Special Stake Worship Service.  9:30pm –12:30pm. ISC Auditorium.  In observance of the Oakland Stake 75th Anniversary, all regular ward Sunday services will be cancelled in order to have a special Stake Sunday Service.

 

October 18, 2009.  Temple Hill Symphony Performance.  7:30-9:00pm in the ISC Auditorium.  Repeat performance of the Temple Hill Symphony Orchestra titled “Spanish Treasures.”

 

October 23-24, 2009.  Hayward/Fremont Stake Single Adult Conference “Fear Not I Am With You”.   October 23:  Fireside at 6:00pm at the Oakland Interstake Center followed at 7:00 with an Oakland Temple Endowment session (or visit the Visitor’s Center), and Fenton’s Creamery at 9:15pm.  October 24 starts at 10:15am with registration.  11:00am guest speaker President David Gingery, who recently returned from serving as the Kingston Jamaica Mission President.  Several workshops and lunch follow.  At 4:45 p.m. Guest speaker Richard King, former World President of Rotary International and a world traveler will speak.  Tri Tip dinner will follow and at 6:15 there will be a live performance. $20 before October 15, $25 at the door.   Contact Anita Jimenez (510) 471-5408 or jimenezanagrif@gmail.com
