CURRENT EVENTS

 

July 31- August 1, 2010 - The Berkeley Kite Festival.  These are like no other kites you will ever see.  Imagine gigantic geckos, bears, lobsters and octopuses invading the skies over Cesar Chavez Park in Berkeley. There will be kite making and kite flying lessons, team kite ballets, battling kites and kites that rain down candy to earthbound fans.  Don’t forget to bring your friends and a camera. This event is free for all to enjoy.  10:00am - 5:00pm  Kite Festival Attendees are asked to consider free parking east of  I-80 and walking/biking across our new Bike/Pedestrian Bridge. Enjoy a scenic view of the SF Bay while walking to our great kite display and festival.

 

August 7, 2010 - Oakland A’s vs. Texas Rangers. 7:05 pm. It will be a great price for a great time. Only $8 per person. This includes ticket, sandwich, chips and candy. Friends and family welcome.  Contact Debbie Crawford at bdbear1212@sbcglobal.net

 

August 14, 2010 - S.S. RED OAK   “All HANDS ON DECK”  The Oakland Stake Singles are Sponsoring a service project on the Victory Ship, the SS Red Oak.  The ship served our country during WWII and is being restored to operational condition. We have the opportunity to be a part of her historic reconditioning.  We will help in straightening up, cleaning and odd jobs around the ship that need to be done. Cleaning material will be supplied.  Afterwards, there will be plenty of time to explore the ship. Refreshments will be served. Also the movie “The Forgotten Voyage” will be shown.  (This is about the Mormons sailing from New York to California in 1846). September 4 & 5, 2010 - The 145th Scottish Highland Gathering & Games!

Although a Scottish tradition, these games are designed for everyone to enjoy. Bagpipe bands, Celtic Rock music, dancing, food and, of course, the games. Listen to hundreds of bagpipes play at the same time as they march along the parade grounds. Look for your Celtic Clan.  You might find out about some of your Genealogy while enjoying the day. SEPT 17-19, 2010 – CAMP SIERRA CONFERENCE, “No One Can Take Your Place.”

Camp Sierra is located at Big Creek CA, just a short distance north of Shaver Lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of central California; 60 miles east of Fresno. All meals are prepared & served by the camp staff. Campers sleep in rustic cabins on bunk beds, in rooms that accommodate 2, 4, or 8 persons. Cabins have community bathrooms that are “down the hall.” Cost includes food & lodging, $140 if paid before Sept 8, $150 after.
